UPM, FRIM Form Smart Partnership in Forestry Research



Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) to collaborate in the field of forestry research, human resource development and lifelong education particularly in relation to post-graduate studies.
The signing of the MOU between the two parties was held at the UPM Faculty of Food Science and Technology on 11 April 2013.



FRIM Director General (DG), Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod, represented the Malaysian Forestry Research and Development Board (MFRDB) in signing the agreement whilst the university was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan.

This MOU provides for UPM lecturers to conduct their sabbatical at the Institute while FRIM researchers will also have the opportunity to be appointed as lecturers at the university. The agreement will bring mutual benefits to both parties through the application development programs over the next five (5) years, specifically for the development of forestry research and development in areas including climate change, latest
processing technology, forest conservation and environmental protection.

Also present at the ceremony were the FRIM Deputy DG (Operations), Dr Norini Haron, Deputy DG (Research), Dr Mohammed Nor Mohd Yusoff, the UPM Forestry Faculty Dean, Prof. Datin Dr Faridah Hanum Ibrahim, and FRIM Forest Products Division Director, Dr Rahim Sudin.
