The Faculty is actively involved in basic and applied forestry research. Research is conducted by the academic staff, research officers and graduates including undergraduate students. Research funding is obtained from the government, private and international agencies.
The main research funding is obtained from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (ScienceFund, InnoFund and TechnoFund), Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (TechnoFund) and Ministry of Education (Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS), Priority Research Grant Scheme (PRGS), Strategic Research Grant Scheme (SRGS), Long-term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS) and Malaysia Brain Gain. Research grants are also obtained from Universiti Putra Malaysia (Putra Grant).
Other research grants awarded to the Faculty include FELDA, International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Japanese Forestry Tropical Society (JFTS), International Timber Trade Organization (ITTO), Environmental Economic Program for South East Asia (EEPSEA) and Asia Pacific Association of Forestry Research Institutions (APAFRI).
